My daughter and measurement....

I was trying to get her to grasp the whole inches, feet and yard thing was just mulitiplication and division. Which she knows. The problem was 27 feet equals how many yards? She said 8.... I asked her what is 9 times 3? She said 27. So then I asked her what is 27 divided by 3? She said 9.

The lightbulb then went off, however she said to me "Well it's measurement so I was close"....

ARGGGGG - lol

Lisa,

With her (obvious) math skills, she seems to be functioning at the 12th grade level (TPS achievement scale).

When are you going to introduce her to metric?

And, I will always wonder what happened to that old (20-30 years ago???) metric phase in plan we (us unedumacated, sloppy, dopey Merkins (LBJ lingo) had signed on to...

And another benefit of metric:
6" becomes 15+ cm.

Impressive!!!

lmao HT, she's in the 5th grade thankfully tonights longitute/latitude and prime merdian homework went easier than the math...

They are still teaching metric, she learned a little about it last year. I discovered the other day hwo I needed to remember metric...was told the satellite dish had to be smaller than a meter, Dish guys didn't know how big a meter was.

Amazing how some of this stuff still comes in handy.

I have a man type question. What is the deal with women's sizes? Size 6, size 7, size 8, size 9, etc. It makes no sense. Men's clothing is measured in an understandable way. The pants are 34 inches in the waist and 31 in the inseam. You can figure out whether or not it will come close to fitting (because those numbers are different depending on the manufacturer). With women's clothing, well, I don't get it.

gd, it is a marketing attempt best I can see rather than be smart like men's clothing where there is an more exact measurement they assign these sizes.

Which depending on the designer? You could be a 3, 5, or 7 (junior sizes) or a 2, 4, 6 (women's sizes) There supposedly are size charts for women's clothing but I've found alot more leeway as far as sizing as opposed to menswear. The inseam there is petite, regular and tall in most pants. I as an example need a tall else it looks like I'm wearing floods, one of my daughters needs a petite.

Unless of course you buy American Apparel who has a "unisex" line

My 5th grade daughter is going through "I don't inderstand" phase in math as well. Conversion is a toughie for her too. Her teacher teaches weel, but I suck at it. According to my daughter, though she doesn't tell me I suck, that is my interpertation. So, I'm feeling it with you , Lisa.

Having five kids? I know at various times they think I suck.
