Today much will be about opening statements, a chance for the various Senators to preen before the cameras, tommorrow the questions should start.
In the end I doubt anything will come up that will change the end result. John Roberts will end up being confirmed Chief Justice of the Supreme court. I do have to admit I expected someone already on Court to be suggested as Chief Justice but it was not a total surprise that Bush selected John Roberts.
I'm still speculating as to who Bush will nominate to replace O'Connor. Maybe this time Edith from New Orelans will really get the nod rather than having her clerk play games with the media as to where she was.

I must admit that I, too, was surprised that Bush didn't nominate Thomas or Scalia to succeed Rehnquist as Chief Justice. I guess he figured there would be too much acrimony from the Senate Dems. I wouldn't care, but I guess he would.
However, I would think that it would be a tad insulting to Thomas and Scalia that a new judge, one who hasn't even been nominated to the Court in any capacity, would be coming in as Chief Justice. How does that go?
Roberts: Hi! I'm John Roberts! Pleased to meet you fine folks. Anyway, we've never met, but I'm going to be calling the shots here from now on. Uh...where's the restroom at in this place?
I didn't think of that aspect of it Jonathan, though I did wonder if having someone that much younger and never a Justice before would cause problems.
Maybe the fact that he has appeared before the Supreme Court so often as well as being a former clerk for Rhenquist might make a difference.
Well, whomever he chooses next should come prepaired with asbestos underoos.
Chief Justice Roberts' "hearing" and confirmation will eventually end, but not until the old (Senate) strippers strut their stuff like it was amateur night down at the local Burlesque hall. But, that aside, the real battle will be for the second Bush nominee.
This will be a battle of epic proportions, lasting for many, many months.
And, should there be a third seat to fill...
Why, 'ole Teddy Kennedy will be spinning in his gravy :-)
(hopefully for eternity)...
