Hackett v Schmidt race in Ohio

Alot of us have been paying attention to Paul Hackett's attempt to break into what has been considered a Republican stronghold in District 2 in Ohio.

It's too early to call but last update with 305 precincts of 753 reporting,

Hackett has the lead with 51% of the votes.

Will update as the night goes on.

:-)

580 precincts of 753 reporting

Schmidt now leading with 52% of the votes

662 precincts of 753 reporting

Both have 50% with Schmidt ahead by 870 votes

Final count at this point...753 precincts of 753 reporting

Schmidt has it with 52%

I thought my threatening to move to Ohio would draw out more Republican supporters and keep it from being a close election. They don't want a liberal power broker like myself to move in on their turf

Many are saying if it is even a close race it's a win given that area usually has a 50% margin of victory to Republicans. I'd still like to see Hackett win it though,

Looks like he might lose by a under a thousand votes unless the remaining precincts change that around.

Yeah, from what I can see it looks like he will fall short. I don't believe in moral victories in politics. The other side doesn't care as long as they win and get to be in power and it also rallies them for future elections.

If the Gore election hadn't been close, I believe that Bush would have lost in 2004

I don't really believe in the whole moral victory thing either, but it is what is being said maybe to make all of those who worked so hard on this race feel they accomplished something.

In politics there really is only one winner and no one remembers most times who ran against you a few years down the road.

It could change with the last precincts, hopefully we'll find out soon.

I will call Jerry Springer and have him look into the count. He knows how to get to the truth in sleazy situations like politics and affairs with people's midget sisters

Looks like he couldn't do it --

He lost by 3573 votes.

Lisa, think about it, this is Rob Portman's district, its a lock for the GOP. They routinely win this thing by 30 points. in '04 they won by 44% and Bush carried it EASILY.

Hackett losing by 4% is more than a moral victory, it shows the Democratic party is capable of being competitive anywhere in the country.

Thanks for covering this Election Night. I fell asleep at 8pm and didnt wake for 12 hours. Missed all the suspense! Fuel for 06, though.

We both agreed he was a great candidate Frank, and compared to what you did going down there and trying to help him win? My posting about it was minimal in comparison.

Hopefully he will find another Ohio spot he is interested in as I still believe he would be a wonderful addition to Ohio government.

Oh yeah, another reason I like the guy is he is pro-2nd Amendment, which is where the party needs to move. I forgot to mention that.
