Grain Elevator Fire in Toledo and TV reporters

One of the major grain elevators by the Maumee River is on fire after there was an explosion. So this is big news if you live locally, so far it appears no one was hurt but it could be a huge monetary loss depending on how much damage ends up when this is over.

Yet, I have to wonder about reporters at times. A local man is interviewed who lives near there, 3/8 of a mile from the Grain Elevator, when the explosion happened it cracked several windows in his home.

"Are you and your children ready to leave if told to"

Suggested responses...

"Well no actually I thought I would just stand here and talk to you, maybe get some marshmallows out".

"Leave? Hell No! If that fire gets worse the kids and I plan on dying at the homestead".

He of course responded with the boring..

"Yes we are ready to leave".

That is a good idea to call in air strikes on the evil-doing grain elevator.

Just curious. Why would they evacuate people? Are there more elevators in danger or did it spread dust or something from inside?

It could blow up again or spread to one of the other elevators that could blow up. The fumes could also be toxic. The grain dust is pretty flamable.

The Air National Guard and the Sun oil refinery are the only two in our area that have the special foam application thingy that would put it out from what I'm hearing anyway.

Thanks for clarifying. I used to live in Iowa and we had a big elevator explosion, but I couldn't remember if they evacuated. I knew the dust was bad stuff but wasn't sure how much it would spread.

I've lived within the same ten mile area my entire life. Sometimes boring but other times? Never regret it...
