Dylan Thomas...

The past few days events have made me think of this poem from him quite a bit lately. I'm working on a few other articles for later; most of you have probably read this or at least heard some parts of it.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Dylan Thomas, 1951 or 1952

Great poem. A while ago I asked for recommendations on good poetry and Thomas came up a few times. This was the only work of his that I knew before I got my poetry compilations.

I like Kipling too, right now I'm reading Four Greek Plays, the Dudley Fitts edit....

Oedipus Rex is the one I'm on right now, in between reading the new Harry Potter book chapters with my youngest.

A few weeks ago it was Civil Disobedience, I like to go back and re-read things from time to time. I also have Richard Clarks book half done (no I don't finish one before I move on - lol)

:-)

I usually don't come close to finishing one before starting another. I have tried to slow down, but hav been known to be reading 5 or 6 books at a time and not getting very far very fast on any of them

I do the same thing with music, I have to be in the right "mood" for each particular type of book. Nice to know I'm not alone since most of my family are die hard "must finish one" before starting anotherers

RFK occasionally quoted Dylan Thomas and this poem, though his favorite was Aeschylus

I'm a fan of the late Thomas Wolfe.
