People of Uzbekistan

"The people of Uzbekistan want to see a more representative and democratic government. But that should come through peaceful means, not through violence," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

Shame on you, after all if your country is not a US ally then you can and must use even violence (Iraq) to overthrow a government with our help. However, if you are an ally of the US then you must stop, be peaceful.

If you are a US ally, we won't complain when journalists are throw out or people are murdered for peaceful demonstrations, not do we mind that one of the harshest men in your history is your "President". We are willing to not notice that the reason why peaceful demonstrations made changes in the former Soviet republics of Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan might have something to do with the reaction of those Presidents who didn't tell the protestors statements like this:

"We don't care if 200, 300 or 400 people die. We have force and we will chuck you out of there anyway," protest leader, Kabuljon Parpiyev quoted Almatov as saying.

We have no idea how many have died, reporters have been told to leave and Almatov controls the release of information, however if it were a minor deal and only a few people were being killed why have over 4,000 fled for the border? Why are they staying there in fear awaiting being allowed aslyum? Wouldn't common sense tell you most people are not going to flee their homes unless it's serious?

Then the deeper question is asked, why do we continue to support men like Almatov? Haven't we learned anything from our days of supporting Saddam and so many others like him in history? If people want freedom and democracy and they can't get it thru peace who are we to tell them given our own history in our quest for freedom to stop and be peaceful? Should it matter that they are muslim?

It all depends on which way the wind is blowing...and who's doing the blowing.
