Poll in...will they listen?

As the Senate moves toward a major confrontation over judicial appointments, a strong majority of Americans oppose changing the rules to make it easier for Republican leaders to win confirmation of President Bush's court nominees, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll.

But by a 2 to 1 ratio, the public rejected easing Senate rules in a way that would make it harder for Democratic senators to prevent final action on Bush's nominees. Even many Republicans were reluctant to abandon current Senate confirmation procedures: Nearly half opposed any rule changes, joining eight in 10 Democrats and seven in 10 political independents, the poll found.

Washington Post

Given the media is now reporting that Frist is not willing to compromise, and the fact that the majority of Republicans don't seem to pay attention to the polls at all, they probably will not listen. While it is of course bad news for us all on a temporary basis, surely you would think someone in the Republican Party is starting to realize that these continued "we don't care what you think" demonstrations are going to cost them in the voting booth.

Then that begs the next question be considered....if and when Democrats become the majority again, which becomes more likely given the way the Republicans are helping them, will they remember what it was like to be the miniority? Or will they fall into the same bs that the Republicans are doing right now, this whole revisionism of history of what they say that is often very far from the reality.

The other day someone tried to tell me that Leahy was lying when he said the Republicans attempted to filibuster two Clinton judicial candidates in 2000, I probably would have laughed had it not been so sad that rather that admit clear senate history, he'd rather believe it was a lie because those like Rush make it a daily issue out of promoting such bs. When the Senate's own website gives you proven evidence that the Republicans have filibustered Judicial candidates in the past, how these revisionist mongers keep getting away with it is unfathomable to me.

Maybe there will be a total backlash against both parties and Independents will gain more power....(okay I can dream you know)

I'd love nothing more than to see a major backlash against both the Republicans and Democrats on the part of the American population. I truly believe that nothing would benefit our country more than eliminating their apparent hold on power and bring in more Independents or other parties. Until that happens though, I'm afraid we're probably stuck with their irresponsible, self-serving, and childish antics.

Current politics consists of nothing more than hypocrisy and grabs at power and influence as an end to nothing more than self-gratification. The saddest part about the whole thing is that our political system was never intended to be an elitist group. Government should be run by those who truly represent the American public - the American public. Unfortunately, those with money and/or clout have the capital to expend on advertising and gain the name recognition that brings them the votes they need to win. It's seldom about the issues...
