I have to admit this whole Jeff Gannon/James Guckert situation inspired me. I was a blog fan though not a huge one. I read daily kos...daily....I read Little Green Footballs and some other blogs from time to time but I actually spent more time online reading various newspapers and messing around on the excite message board.
Until Gannon. The story interested me, I wanted to read more and I found more blogs, like Americablog. I tried to tell people about Jeff Gannon on the message board, but for some reason most of the conservatives that love to argue/discuss with me didn't want to talk about Jeff Gannon. So it became a daily thing for me to post "Gannon updates" a few times a day.
I've always loved to research online, but it's been finding links, information, "snoping", never the heavy duty detective work I saw happen with the Gannon story.
To me this story is important not because Gannon might be gay, but because of the very sinister motivation behind this. Think about it. We have a Whitehouse that we know has paid reporters to give the "right" slant, and now we find out that somehow this guy gets a press pass before Talon News was even created. On a daily basis. Using a fake name. Not only is he there but he gets called on. So I start to wonder things that so far haven't been answered.
If the rest of the Whitehouse press corps knew Gannon wasn't using his real name why didn't anyone say anything? Surely lots of people knew he wasn't using his real name. No one got curious? Aren't journalists supposed to be curious?
I grew up on stories about Deep Throat. Where are the Journalists of those Nixon years? Obviously they're on the blogs...
When one person talks very few listen, however the power of the blogs is their ability to make people and even the MSM listen. If it were not for the bloggers Jeff Gannon would still be there in the Whitehouse press corps, happily tossing softballs with none of us any the wiser about what was really going on.
I'm sure most of us know that our President doesn't read the newspapers or watch news on television. He's one of the most protected Presidents in quite some time when it comes to how the average american thinks. Is that why Jeff Gannon was "created"? To give the President someone kind to turn to when the MSM was at least pretending to be critical?
It reminds me of the Life Cereal commericals. Let's get Mikey, he'll do it! So they got Jeff and he served well being tossed an occasional classified story as a "bone" not to mention the ego trip he got from bragging around certain message boards about his importance.
Stroking the President's ego isn't a crime. We all know even according to our President that "it's hard" to be President. However a pattern of creating a propaganda machine so that the average person thinks it's news when in reality it's not news it's a public service campaign to deceive may not be a crime from a legal sense? To me it's a "moral" crime against the American Public and a further nail in the coffin to the reliability and trust we used to have in the MSM.
